Accessibility QA · Free local HTML check

Find missing or weak image alt text before publishing.

Paste a page's HTML source to review its <img> alternative text. This browser-only tool distinguishes missing alt attributes, potentially decorative empty alt text, and vague or filename-like descriptions. No page content is uploaded to our servers, and image sources are never loaded by the checker.

Paste only material you may inspect. All processing happens locally: the analyzer tokenizes image tags as text instead of opening image URLs or executing scripts.

Need repeatable audits across public URLs?

The PAL Image Alt Text Checker on Apify inspects selected public static HTML pages and exports review findings in JSON/CSV for a team checklist. It can help reviewers inspect more than one page without copying each page's HTML manually.

It does not recognize the visual meaning of images or determine WCAG compliance by itself. Empty alt attributes may be the right choice for decorative images; missing alt text should be reviewed in context. The hosted Actor may charge for processed pages.

Practical review checklist

1. Missing alt: Decide whether the image conveys information. Add concise meaning for informative images, or use alt="" where appropriate for decorative images.

2. Empty alt: Do not automatically treat it as a defect. Confirm that surrounding links and controls still have clear accessible names.

3. Vague alt: Filenames and labels such as “image” do not explain purpose. Add a meaningful description when content is informative.

4. Full review: This tool does not analyze CSS background images, SVG semantics, accessibility trees, images generated by JavaScript, or alt quality in context. A manual WCAG review is still necessary.
